Earth Day Is April 22nd. Why Should We Care?
Publication date: Apr 1, 2009
Where will you be April 22nd? Use Earth Day as an impetus to learn more about our dependence on the environment and how you can green your lifestyle.
It's easy to ignore Earth Day. Unlike other holidays, it doesn't inspire ad campaigns, require gift-giving, or even give us an excuse to have a special feast. However, while Earth Day may seem inconsequential, it may actually be the most important holiday of them all.
Humans are completely dependent upon the Earth and its resources for survival. Even the simplest act of breathing would be impossible without the Earth's unique blend of atmospheric gases. Concerned about job-related stress or a major home repair? Put those worries into perspective by considering the global environmental problems that threaten life as we know it. For humans (and all the other residents of our planet), every day really is Earth Day.

Earth Day 1970: The Beginning of a Movement
Nearly thirty years ago, the first Earth Day was organized by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson. Considered by many to be start of the environmental movement, the first Earth Day mobilized thousands to participate in rallies and protests nationwide. The success of this effort helped lead to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.Celebrate Earth Day 2009
