Of the estimated 2.2 million Americans age 40 plus with glaucoma, half are at risk of going blind because they do not know they have it. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve responsible for transmitting visual information to the brain. Most people don't know there is a problem until they begin to lose some vision, by which time the disease is advanced.
