A study involving 73 young women reveal that certain oral contraceptives make it more challenging to gain muscle mass through exercise. The women worked out intensely for 10 weeks, focusing on muscle-building activities. Birth control pills with medium to high androgenic progestins made muscle-building exercises less effective.
