Cataracts are often only detected when vision starts to be affected. If left untreated, cataracts can lead to blindness. A new device developed by ophthalmologists at the National Institutes of Health detects changes in the proteins in the eye that can lead to cataracts before vision problems begin. The device is undergoing clinical trial.
