Continued vision loss from central retinal vein occlusion could be prevented by intravitreous injections of pegaptanib (Macugen), research shows. The treatment does not appear to reverse the condition, however. Central retinal vein occlusion is caused by hemorrhage, swelling, and other pressure-related retinal damage when blood backs up in the blocked vein.
