Are You Free to Fall in Love?

Like it or not, trust is a condition for survival in human society. Even in such simple acts as eating a candy or boarding a bus we have to trust that the candy hasn't been tampered with, or that the bus's brakes have been checked. The bottom line is that enjoying the benefits of societal living requires that we build a believing dependence upon one another. And, in our sometimes impersonal world, being trusted may well represent a greater compliment than being loved.
Obviously, your willingness to trust others depends upon the setting. You might trust a stranger at a professional function more readily than you would at a bar. Placing your faith in someone depends upon judgment as well. You might rely on a friend to feed your pet in your absence but would not trust the same friend to keep a secret. Yet trusting isn't completely reliant on setting or judgment.
If you are wondering whether you have the capacity to fall in love, the quiz below may provide some insight. It's based on research at Tufts University. Respond “True” or “False” to each item below to determine your “love-trust index.”
