Martha Stewart, Oprah Winfrey, and Ted Turner are all proven high achievers. If tested, the results would probably show that they have certain personality traits in common: high intelligence, high drive, and a high energy level. But why is it that some of us get ahead while others, with equal potential, don't?
Psychologist David McClelland, formerly of Harvard University, has studied this question extensively. He studied nearly twenty personality traits--including the need for dominance, love, and nurturance--at the Harvard Psychology Clinic. Now, his findings are used worldwide to show managers how to encourage achievement in the workplace.
Do you have what it takes to be a winner? To learn how high your ambition level is, take the following quiz. It was adapted from the work of Professor McClelland and John Ray, of the University of New South Wales in Australia.
