Psychologist David McClelland, formerly of Harvard University, has studied this question extensively. He studied nearly twenty personality traits--including the need for dominance, love, and nurturance--at the Harvard Psychology Clinic. Now, his findings are used worldwide to show managers how to encourage achievement in the workplace.
